About Us

Roselle McNeilly and Whitney Thorniley met in 2004 while pursuing their Master’s degrees in Oriental Medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College of Berkeley.  They graduated together at the top of their class in 2007 and received their California licenses in October of that year.  Driven by a desire to make acupuncture care more accessible and affordable to people of average incomes, Roselle and Whitney founded Oakland Acupuncture Project in February, 2008.

OAP has grown consistently over the years. The company now employs a total of seven acupuncturists in two locations in Oakland, providing affordable acupuncture treatment to hundreds of people each week. In October of 2011 Whitney and Roselle were named Woman Entrepreneurs of the Year for Alameda County by the Women’s Initiative for Self-Employment. The award recognizes their success in making a difference in the community and stimulating the local economy. In October of 2011 Whitney and Roselle brought Jeff Levin in as a partner; he had been working at OAP for over a year and brought the energy, enthusiasm and skill that was needed to expand to a second location. Whitney, Roselle, Jeff, and the rest of the OAP team welcome you to the OAP community!

Teacher Appreciation Month at OAP!!

Polish your apples and put on your thinking caps, because May 9th is “California Day of the Teacher,” and the whole 2nd week of the month is teacher appreciation week. To show our support for teachers, during the entire month of May, we are offering a discount to all educators: $10 follow up treatment or, if you’re a 1st time patient, we’ll waive your initial $15 paperwork fee.

If you’re a parent and not sure what to get your child’s teacher to show your appreciation, we’ll sell you a gift certificate for them at the discount price!

At OAP, aside from all the amazing teachers we already serve, we have a strong link with educators since both Whitney and Jeff are married to teachers. We interviewed Jeff to find out more about how teachers are such an integral part of our community. Check out the interview on our blog.
